When Coco met Kate : A Hens Night to Remember
In August this year I got to throw my little sister a hens party. I really enjoyed planning out all the little details for this party. I knew from the start that she wouldn’t want a wild hens party with the usual shenanigans that some might expect! This was always going to be a nice classy dinner with family and friends, where we could all just relax, get to know each other and honour the bride to be.
I looked around online, and went in personally to look at various venues but none stood out quite like Electra House Hotel on King William Street in Adelaide. This establishment is STUNNING.
As soon as I waked in I knew that this was going to be THE perfect venue for us. The building itself and all the interiors are absolutely gorgeous!
Their Level One Restaurant was able to cater to our event needs and so it was booked! I think I sent about 5,000 emails back and forth to Kate, who is the function coordinator there. She was so helpful, so accommodating, and so lovely throughout the whole process. If you’re looking for a function venue I HIGHLY recommend Electra House. Kate will look after you and you can rest assured that the event will run smoothly. She is honestly the best function coordinator I have ever met. And the BLUSH PINK walls were just amazing!
I decided to combine two of my favourite themes for this hens party. I love the Kate Spade theme with the bold burgundy and hot pink blooms, with the black and white stripes and gold accents. But I also really love the softer, more romantic look of Parisienne and Coco Chanel themes. So I combined them!
Hence, ‘When Coco met Kate’.
So the theme was based on a colour palette of soft apricot, peach, blush pink, burgundy and a touch of navy blue. I also used black and white stripes and gold to accentuate various aspects. Floral blooms were a feature in our theme, as were lacy and textured fabrics in our outfits.
The restaurant had navy blue wooden floors and some navy painted feature walls too. This was all brought together with navy cloth napkins and it all tied in really well with the apricot and blush pink. This was one of my favourite colour palettes to work with. And it was such a lovely surprise for my sister. She only knew a little of what I was planning to do, as I wanted to surprise her. When she saw the set up it was an emotional moment! Her reaction truly made all the planning and effort worthwhile.
Invites, Stationery, Welcome Sign
All by the amazingly talented Anna from Print and Party and all personalised! And all done with such great customer service, as always. I made quite a few requests and changes and Anna was so lovely and accommodating through out the whole process, thank you so much Anna!
The invites incorporated a border of blooms in the shades that I wanted and also the black and white stripes from the cake. The font was gold glitter and black. I had them printed on the back as well with extra information. The other option would have been to print this extra info on another, smaller card.
The welcome sign greeted guests and was a great way to set the tone for the theme. And of course it tied in with our invites. I just love this sign so much. Anna was able to match the colour of the blooms to match the soft colour palette I was working with, and was able to incorporate the black and white stripes from the cake into a beautiful framed border.
Part of the personalised party stationery from Print and Party included round personalised thank you stickers which went beautifully with the chocolate bark, sprinkled with edible flowers.
The only “games” we had were centred around everyone getting to know each other a bit better, allowing people to mingle and chat and have a bit of a laugh.
We started with a Bridal Quiz, which is pretty self explanatory!
The quiz questions were printed on this beautiful card by Anna from Print and Party and matched to our invites and welcome sign. I was able to design them exactly how I wanted them! I allowed a space for each guest’s name and a score tally, at the bottom.
As well as the quiz card we had a smaller card in matching design as all the other stationery for ‘Advice for the Bride’. Each guest was asked to fill out the rest of the sentence, for example ‘Some good advice given to me was…”.
There was some really funny advice but also some emotional advice too. How good is Joe our photographer capturing this moment!
Ok so next on to the…
Cake and dessert table!
So this gorgeous cake and all the desserts were by the very talented Yiota of My Sweet Addiction. The cake incorporated the black and white stripe, and was adorned with gorgeous blooms. It was placed on a gold stand to tie in with our theme. It was white chocolate and raspberry and was delicious!
The other desserts included giant macarons with salt and caramel filling, mini orange and poppy seed cakes, mini red velvet cakes, individual cheesecakes, and chocolate bark with rose petal, pistachio and cranberry as our thank you party favours.
I loved being able to match all the desserts with our colour scheme. Thank you Yiota for making everything look so beautiful.
So next up are the…
Thank you to Sam from Fab Functions for all the gorgeous blooms. Sam provided the flowers for the top of the cake, the arrangement on the dessert table, and the decorative blooms in gold vases (she did the vases too!).
And of course the stunning flower crowns were also Sam’s creations! The colours were perfect and the roses smelled amazing! I love how Sam was able to put a small, simple veil on the bride’s flower crown – it is a hens party after all!
These gorgeous jumbo round balloons were from the lovely Tram of Tea Pee Party and were just THE perfect shade of blush pink and apricot! And the balloon garlands were so lovely with the gold glitter. The word “love” in gold script was also from here. I just love jumbo round balloons. Is it even a party without them? Haha.
For something different, I decided that instead of the usual ‘bridesmaid’ and ‘bride to be’ sashes, I wanted to have badges. Then I decided that everyone should have a badge! I found an Etsy store, ‘Inspired by Eva‘ and the lovely Ang was able to design a few mock ups based on my request to have a black and white border with pink blooms of some sort, with everyone’s name in the middle. This is the design I chose – and Ang loved it so much that she decided to add it to her collection!
Each badge had the guest’s name on there as well as ‘Zaki’s Hens’. The bridal party badges had ‘bridesmaid’ on them (and ‘matron of honour’ for me) as well as our names. I had ‘mother of the bride’ and ‘mother of the groom’ ones also but my favourite one was the one for the bride, with ‘Future Mrs. Sid’ (an abbreviation of her new surname!) in pink! Love! Thank you Ang, they were a hit!
We presented Zaki with a ‘wedding day survival kit’ filled with the usual things that you might find that you need on your wedding day! I had the box scripted in gold foil lettering with the words ‘The Best Day’ because we wanted her to have the best day! We included a lace gown to wear while getting ready in the morning, hairspray, bandaids, chewing gum, bobby pins, tissues, etc etc! The box was made by the lovely Lina of That Creative Co. Lina also did the wedding invites and matched the lettering on the box the invites – amazing!
I also ordered this keepsake Ginger Ray Boho Wooden Hearts Drop Top Frame from eBAY. Guests were able to sign each heart with a message and pop them into a slot at the top of the frame. This makes a gorgeous keepsake. It is pictured here with the prize for the person who got the most points in the quiz – a Glasshouse Candle from David Jones.
And this post would not be complete if I didn’t mention the AMAZING menu provided by Level One Restaurant. We started with charcuterie and bubbly on arrival. The charcuterie alone was divine but little did we know how amazing the rest of the food was going to be!
Every single item on the menu was amazing and we were so full by the end of the night! Sometimes with share plates it can go either way with quantities – but in this case, there was more than enough! We didn’t even finish everything! I cannot emphasise enough how happy we were with Electra House. If you have an event coming up or even just looking for somewhere to go for a meal, do yourself a favour and book at Electra House. We partied on after dinner in the downstairs bar area and had a great time.
Enjoy some photos below from the fun time we had at Zaki’s Hens, thanks to the amazing photographer Joe from JNV Photography. Joe was also the wedding photographer and he is incredible! He is your guy if you’re looking for a professional photographer – I just LOVE the candid shots he took of our night to remember…
Today I adore my sister.
