Who knew that a first birthday party could take up so much time and planning?! I mean they’re so little, they won’t even remember it, right?! And let’s be honest – a party at this age is more for the parents…(pass the wine please k thanks). But you only turn ONE once, so I think that’s a good enough reason to celebrate.

Sometimes the littlest things take up the most room in your heart.WINNIE THE POOH

Recently we threw a party to celebrate our little girl Ilina turning O N E! We marked the occasion with a celebration with close friends and family at our home.

Planning a party can be overwhelming, especially if you’re like me and want everything to be matched and styled to a theme.

When choosing a theme my first thought is usually, “What kind of cake do I want?” The cake is usually the centrepiece of the party, taking pride of place on a stand or a dessert or cake table of some sort. It’s where everyone gathers to sing happy birthday and where many of the photos are taken.

I knew that I wanted a drip cake, and that it would have pastel and gold on it in some way. I think pastel for a little girl is really sweet and bringing gold into it brings a bit of sparkle! And all kids love ice cream!

So with the pastel and gold theme in mind, I started to put all the pieces together…

First stop, the invites! Print and Party

I found the perfect invites at Print and Party to fit the theme – pastel and gold coloured rainbow stripes with a gold unicorn.

I requested to have the unicorn image replaced with an ice cream image which was no trouble at all. Anna provided a few samples and I chose the upside down ice cream drip cake image to match the actual drip cake. It was just perfect!

Next stop, the cake! My Sweet Addiction

Upside down ice cream cake with rose gold drip by My Sweet Addiction

Ilina’s cake was an upside down ice cream drip cake with ROSE GOLD drip! Rose gold is my favourite metal at the moment so I decided to mix my metals! It went perfectly with the yellow gold in the invites and the yellow gold and silver tassels in the balloon arrangements.

The cake was an 8″ 4 layer red velvet cake with vanilla Italian meringue buttercream. Rose gold drip (which even had a rose scent to it!!!) with upside down ice cream cone, pastel mint green base with sprinkles.

From here we also had a full dessert table including:

  • Vanilla flavoured cupcakes with pastel pink and pastel purple vanilla buttercream
  • Macarons (in pastel colours and rose gold painted) with lemon curd buttercream filling
  • Cake pops – these were dark mud cake with mint green base and white sprinkles
  • Ice cream shape cookies with hand painted faces and sprinkles and personalised stamped message “ILINA TURNS 1”, packaged in cello bags with ribbon
  • Meringues – swirly shapes in pastel colours
  • Mini donuts – white chocolate topping with watercolour pastel and rose gold design

Yiota from My Sweet Addiction is so talented with all forms of dessert. I highly recommend her for your next party!

Next stop, Party favours! Print and PartyDiscount Party SuppliesOffice Works

Personalised white chocolate party favours from Print and Party

A gorgeous addition to the dessert table were the gold foil chocolate bars from Print and Party. Anna personalised these for us with the message “Happy Birthday Ilina” with an ice cream image. These were also matched with the pastel and gold striped invites and looked amazing! The kids also filled their favour boxes with desserts to take home. The white favour boxes were from Discount Party Supplies. I decorated them with round chalk board stickers from Office Works and a pink permanent chalk board marker with ‘STAY SWEET’ in honour of my sweet baby girl.

Next stop: Decorations! The Little Big Balloon Company and Print and Party

Balloons and tassels: The Little Big Balloon Company

I had a balloon bouquet next to the dessert table with a jumbo foil pink heart shaped balloon, a jumbo foil lilac heart shaped balloon, small pink and lilac foil star balloons, a 60cm round confetti balloon and a 60cm round lilac balloon – both with mint green/pink/lilac and gold tassels.
I then had 3 bunches placed randomly around the house with white round balloons, foil pastel coloured balloons in shapes of hearts, circles and stars. The balloons were AMAZING and the photos just don’t do them justice! From here I also used a pastel and gold tassel garland for behind the dessert table as well as a white gold script balloon of the word “ONE”.

Birthday Board: The Little Big Balloon Company

The Birthday Board was designed by Anna at Print and Party to match our invites and chocolate bar favours. It displayed Ilina’s details like height and weight and some of her milestones. It made the PERFECT decorative addition to the dessert table. It featured as a cute backdrop for photos too,  as well as being an adorable keepsake for Ilina.

Today I adore celebrating with family and friends.
